Things Learned from Podcasts

My main news source these days seems to be "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me - the NPR News Quiz."
Here's two important news stories I would have missed last week without my favorite show:
Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco Formed to Honor George W. Bush ... by appending his name to a sewage treatment plant. *heh*
Two men are suing to stop the construction of the world's largest particle accelerator because they fear it will swallow all of planet Earth. Scientists seem to agree that this is highly unlikely, but (being scientists) none of them seem willing to use the word "impossible." Personally, if the worst should happen, I hope the cause is a "strangelet" rather than the boringly named "micro black holes." Strangelets sound like the bastard child of Cat's Cradle and How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
