For certain values of "interesting" anyway. I have a colonoscopy (that middle-aged rite of passage) scheduled for 3:20pm tomorrow. That means I'll be on a clear liquid diet for a day and a half. Considering how hungry I get after 2 days on a sensible reducing diet, this is a daunting thought. I've got three different bottles of juice in the work fridge so I'll have some variety. My plan is to drink one glass of juice every two hours.

I couldn't manage the Evil Liquid, but in the fasting part of the ordeal, I found that drinking broth alternated with drinking juice delayed the time when juice was so cloying that I couldn't even stand the thought of it.

Is there a choice? I mean, if you DON'T drink the Evil Liquid, can you still go through with the procedure?

Not if you don't drink it at all, no, they can't. If you don't drink enough and aren't suffering otherwise, they'll generally have you come and let them see if you're prepped enough. I drank a lot, but, as they said in the ER, "couldn't tolerate it well." That seems to be a pretty rare reaction, and I don't think you have to worry about it.
