Fun with Netflix
Feb. 6th, 2004 09:56 amThorin and I between us seem to be renting a steady stream of movies, and now that we've graduated to DVD format it's getting more expensive. We used to rent stacks of $.49 VHS tapes on Bargain Tuesday at the store formerly known as Video Update, but we've pretty well worked our way through their VHS catalog. So we took the leap to Netflix.
Originally I just wanted to take a peek at their movie catalog, but there didn't seem to be any way to do that without signing up for the free 2-week trial offer, so I figured what the heck and did it. Then I was sucked in by the fun of list-making. Thorin and I logged on simultaneously through separate computers and started throwing things onto the list. (For a while I couldn't figure out why "Gangs of New York" kept popping up on my list and I deleted it twice before I caught on.) Anyway, I ended up with about 30 DVDs, then spent another 45 minutes shuffling them around.
Two days later the first 3 arrived. Of course by that time, neither Thorin nor I had any idea what they were going to be. I suppose I could go online and look, but as Thorin says, this way we get little surprise presents every few days that always turn out to be some movie one of us always wanted to see. Whee! We watched Wallace and Gromit right away and mailed it back. I have no idea what will arrive tomorrow.
