[livejournal.com profile] barondave turned 50 at our house last night. It was a rootin-tootin success of a party, no particular thanks to me. Dave's Mom called us up shortly before Minicon to ask if she could throw a party for Dave at our house the week after Minicon. She couldn't have it at her house because she lives in New York, or at Dave's because it's too small. We said, "Sure, fine. After Minicon. Minicon, Minicon, Minicon, yikes!" and more or less forgot about it. Until I remembered again at the Dead Dog Party and asked [livejournal.com profile] barondave how many people he had invited. Blank stare. "Was I supposed to invite people?" So we decided to postpone it a week (Ethel was planning to stay for 10 days anyway). Which is how it ended up opposite the Minnstf meeting, which we normally try not to do.

Anyway, I was totally consumed with trying to Catch Up at Work after Minicon, and let Richard handle the whole thing. Naturally, it turned out spectacular. More than 40 people signed the guest register, and there had to be at least a dozen more that didn't sign. Dave had been pretty dubious about the whole thing, but obviously had a great time once things started perking. Lots of Minnstf people, but also a big crowd from his trivia club, people he'd run into a few times at local cons, an old Shock Wave friend, etc.

It was way too crowded and hot for me, of course, and I spent most of my time lurking on the front porch, making periodic raids on the fabulous spread of food, crowned by the magnificent Birthday Salmon.
