Living Dangerously
Aug. 28th, 2007 10:57 amToday I am going to the State Fair, despite weather forecasts of rain, thunder, lightning and admonitions of "may be severe". Admittedly, it looks like a bad day to pick. But it was planned in advance with friends who really wanted to see the grandstand show ("It's The ALLMAN BROTHERS, man!") Well, at least it shouldn't be too crowded. Maybe we can even park in the main lot.
Tomorrow, assuming the severe weather clears up, I'm going sky diving. Yes, Rod has rescheduled his birthday party, with a smaller group this time. We're planning to leave from work in the afternoon and drive to the place in Wisconsin for a 4pm jump. I'm going to pick up Richard on the way and he's going to ride along in the plane.
You'd think I'd be nervous and excited about this, but somehow I'm not. There's always a good chance of it being cancelled for weather, so I'm trying not to get too invested in it either way. This is something I've always wanted to do, but lacked the initiative to plan it on my own, so it was just a no-brainer to sign up for it when the opportunity came along. We'll see what happens.
Of the two expeditions, the State Fair is probably the more dangerous. I hope we don't see a repeat of the pre-Fair storm with the straight line winds that flattened trees and blew the roofs off buildings.
