First of all, I must say that the Fringe website this year has some major improvements - check it out!
The biggest improvement is the addition of a "neighborhood" dropdown menu in the schedule search feature. They've also finally hit on a usable grid format for the schedule, also (FINALLY) arranged by neighborhood rather than alphabetical order of the venues.
In addition to the feature that lets you build a schedule online, they've added a new feature called "Bookmarks" that lets you assemble a list of shows you might want to see without having to pick a time and date.
All of these changes put together make it amazingly easier to put together rational schedules. Here's my methodology.
1) Bookmark a dozen or more shows that I'm pretty sure I want to see. I start by looking for favorite performers from past years and then following the links to "other shows like this." Sometimes the determination for "like this" is as mysterious as the idiotic algorithms Netflix uses, but it's a place to start.
2) Pick a day and a neighborhood from the Schedule menu. If any of my bookmarked shows pop up, add them to My Schedule. Then start filling in empty spots in the schedule by clicking on the links for whatever shows are available in the neighborhood for the empty time slots.
3) Compare my picks with Richard, Thorin,
barondave and anybody else I might want to Fringe with. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
4) Repeat step 3.
