Still crazy after all these years
Oct. 31st, 2011 04:18 pmThanks,
vanaabegra, that was just what I needed in my life right now: a new/old addiction. Yep, you're right - City of Heroes is still running. And it IS free now (sort of). And most amazing of all, they actually have not deleted the old characters off their servers no matter how many years it has been since you played (in my case, about 6). So after the Halloween party last night I downloaded the latest software, logged in and reactivated my highest level character (Coyote Ken, Level 35). Unfortunately, I had left him standing around someplace kind of dangerous, and while he was trying to remember how to run forward and backward he was immediately killed. So now he's standing around in an empty hospital ward mumbling to himself as he maps and remaps his keys.
I realized that an amnesiac Level 35 character was just going to be an embarrassment in this game, so last night I started a new character so I could run through the tutorial. Actually, I deleted and rebuilt a character that had a great name, but had never amounted to much: Cool Hand Lucifer. With the updated graphics he looks even better than he used to - every inch the fallen angel. He used to be a Controller with mind control/force field powers. The Force Field power set turned out to be disappointing, so I rebuilt him as a Dominator (which I think is sort of a dark Controller) with Ice Powers and Mind Control. Then I ran (well, stumbled) through the tutorial and into Mercy City (because if your name is Lucifer you sort of have to be a villain, neh?). After a while it started coming back to me, and I managed to graduate to Level 3. That Block of Ice power rocks - way more effective than the Force Field power set. Block of Ice not only immobilizes the enemy in a highly hilarious way, it actually inflicts significant damage, at least on the low-level mooks in the first mission.
Somehow, it got to be 2 a.m. before I even looked up. *sigh* So now I'm tired.
------------
btw, does anybody know what to do for a bad case of power rot contracted by battling an Afflicted??
