So NERVOUS
May. 4th, 2021 05:06 pmBecause tomorrow is the day - we are leaving for a month-long road trip and I'm always climbing the walls before a trip wondering what I'm forgetting. We've done this exact trip before and we've been packing and prepping for the last month and I think we are entirely ready, but I just know I've forgotten something essential. Or I'll jet out of the house tomorrow morning without the things I have to pack at the last minute, like the power cord for the computer or the CPAP machine.
Where are we going? Oh, like most of the recently vaccinated grandparents in the country, off to see the grandkids. In our case, that's a 1700 mile trek to Portland, Oregon. We (oh, let's be honest here - I make the travel plans, not we) decided to drive instead of fly because I was sick and tired of making and cancelling airplane reservations, and a road trip can be a lot more flexible. Also, because of not travelling for the last year, I had FIVE free hotel nights to use up and a ton of Wyndham points. We're not talking high-end accommodations here, but I did manage to find an option to use up that pesky free Hyatt night in Boise, Idaho. Boise! How exciting - we've never been to Boise! I can pick off another state capitol from my bucket list. And because there's really no reason to drive straight from Rapid City to Minneapolis when you've got free Holiday Inn nights, we've got a reservation in Sioux Falls on the way home! Which sounds kinda fun, actually. They have a zoo and an aquarium and a butterfly garden and a lighted sculpture walk and some kind of fancy park with waterfalls that they are extremely proud of.
You know you've spent too much time huddling inside when Sioux Falls and Boise sound this exciting.
I discovered that Dave's old iPhone has an astonishing 256 Gigabytes of RAM, which is enough to hold my entire iTunes library. So I synced the whole thing and located a Frankenstein cable lying around that will let me connect the lightning port to the Aux port in the van, so we can listen to anything we want as we hit the open road. That sounds exciting too.
No storms in the Rockies, so that's one less thing to worry about. If all goes well, tomorrow night we will be in Dickinson, North Dakota. Which has a dinosaur museum! Big fun!
