Okay, who didn't see this coming?
Jun. 23rd, 2021 01:49 pmIn June of 2019, Richard and I made a road trip to Niagara Falls. In advance of the trip we dug out our passports, since we would need them to cross over into Canada. We immediately lost them. The last time either of us remembers seeing them, they were on the dining room table. Then they were GONE. We turned the house upside down, searching every drawer, every surface, every purse or piece of luggage that I might have thought was a clever place to stow them. We even moved the furniture and searched the sofa cushions. Nada. So we found a different method of getting in and out of Canada, figuring they would turn up eventually after we got home. They didn't.
Two years went by. I finally gave up, reported the passports lost, and applied for new ones in April. On June 11, the new passports arrived. June 11 of this year, which is to say, 12 days ago.
Today I found the lost passports. They were in a box of spare vacuum cleaner brushes stashed on a little shelf under a rolling piece of furniture in our upstairs hall. Neither of us even has a glimmer of a far-fetched theory how they could have ended up there. I'm marking them EXPIRED and putting them back in the passport folder in our little "fire-safe" filing box where they can live out their days with the other expired passports.
