City of Heroes
Jun. 28th, 2004 07:09 pmRichard IS playing this game, at least a little. He's created a great character, a Fire'n'Ice Blaster called Heatdeath, gotten through the tutorial, and managed his first mission in Paragon City. Pretty good for someone who's never played a 1st-person game before (and can barely master email).
I've gotten really hooked. Created a bunch of characters on Protector, but didn't get too far with them.
rvrjoe775 and
drewan play on the Victory server, so I started a new character there and made some real progress with her! Her name is Cher Noble (I wanted China Syndrome, but it was taken, durnit). Cher has green skin, long purple hair and a mostly magenta/grey outfit. She's a Blaster, specializing in Electricity and Fire.
Over the weekend I played a lot, taking Cher Noble from newbie to Level 5. She made a few abortive attempts at team-ups, but just got killed immediately. Decided to work on her own for a while to learn how to use her powers more effectively, and finally accepted a teamup again at Level 3 or 4 with a big 'ol Level 8 Blaster. That worked great - he patiently explained how to use the Team Chat and a few basics, and actually protected me from rush attacks so I could use my blast effects safely. He helped me finish a mission that I had decided was too hard for me, and we rid Paragon City of a number of predatory muggers and the like before I finally got killed. Then I teamed up with a Scrapper called Prometheus X, who had a lot of enthusiasm but no leadership skills. He kept recruiting team members and then tearing off on a mission without, like, SAYING anything. I spent most of my time trying to keep up with him, or find him again after the mission. I managed to get enough experience points to level up, but dropped out of the last mission from my hospital bed. Then I had to go back and run the entire mission again on my own since I was dumb enough to drop off the team before they finished it. But it went fine - I took it slow, cleared the entire Art Museum of 5th Column warriors a few at a time, and rescued the painting with the secret message hidden in it.
