More fun with Netflix

Richard and Thorin went off someplace Saturday night so I took advantage of our new Streaming Netflix to download the next ep of the Tudors, in which Henry rams through the Act of Succession at great personal cost. Ironically, it was a complete waste of time and blood (only a spoiler if you honestly don't know what actually happens after Henry dies. And he will die eventually, count on it). Even with all the visual detail this series revels in, the episode looked GREAT. I'm glad I don't have to keep ordering discs with multiple episodes because this series is becoming a little depressing. Isn't it supposed to be more fun than this to be an absolute monarch?

On Sunday we tried out the BluRay player with Dark City: the Director's Cut.  This is a wonderful movie, in an over-the-top skiffy sort of way.  I enjoyed it even more than I did the first time. This might be because the Director's Cut was an improvement, but more likely it's because having seen it once I wasn't in a state of complete confusion the entire time.

The jury is still out on whether the ability to watch a movie in High Definition is a good thing. The picture is so crisp that it looks slightly artificial, as if the entire thing were computer animation. A lot of it IS computer animation, of course, and those parts look great in High Def. But the closeups of every pore in the actors' skin is a trifle alarming. Even the pretty young woman, who probably has a flawless complexion, kind of looks like her face has been upholstered with very expensive leather.
