My place of work has recently put in a highly annoying and ham-handed Web Content Filter. It does not seem to be their intent (yet, anyway) to disallow the use of social media sites like FB or LJ, or most of the time-wasting websites that people tend to look at during the day. However, they are filtering for "Sexual Content."

This particular filter picks up on the "Adult Content Notices" from LJ and will not let me look at any entry so marked.

I guess if you really do have content that you think is harmful or offensive to minors in your posts you should use this marker. But if you're just being extra careful because you used a "bad word" or discussed sex in some way, I wish you wouldn't. LJ doesn't seem to be enforcing this sort of thing with any enthusiasm. I suspect it is almost entirely voluntary unless they get a lot of complaints about a particular journal.

Somewhat off topic, but I just wanted to mention that the image of us at dinner on Monday is here.

I only see those Adult Contest Notices when I am logged out. Has your cookie gone missing?

Actually, you're right. It turned out that I was accidentally logged out of LJ, and when I logged in again I could see the "adult" entries again. But I'm not sure how that works with the sex filter. If I were reading an "adult" journal for the first time, would it block me? If not, how does the adult filter ever work?
