Richard Status Update

I stopped at the hospital on the way to work. They've been saying that he's doing fine, but he doesn't look fine to me. Not worse than he was, but not much better either. They originally said 4-7 days in the hospital, but it's Day 5 now and he is still in the ICU. He's off the IVs and breathing machines (except for a small nose feed for O2), but still having enough trouble breathing that he can barely talk. His O2 level is hovering around 90-95 (should be close to 100%). This was just fine 2 days ago, but I don't understand why it isn't getting better. He clearly won't be coming home before Friday, and he thinks the doctor suggested that he might need to go to an intermediate care facility for a week before coming home. :-(

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear that he isn't bouncing back with the accustomed Richard-ness. If you want to go out for coffee or something to eat, to take a break, and want company, call me. I would even come to the hospital and eat hospital food! Or if you need an errand done and don't want to leave the hospital, let me know. I will private message you my cell phone #.

So sorry to hear the recovery isn't as fast as the predictions! Surgery is such a huge assault on the system. Hopefully he'll reach a turning point soon and start to rally quickly.

All good thoughts to Richard. Do you need some home cooking or anything like? Do you need someone to take over the Minicon room party at Convergence?

You could stop in Maternity and see the new Tesla baby, if you wanted to.

We hates the bumpy bits on post-surgical rollercoaster rides, we do.

When my gallbladder was removed and I ended up staying overnight after excess bleeding during surgery, my O2 stats were down around 88-90%. My breathing was that shallow because breathing deeply *hurt*. They wouldn't let me leave the hospital until my O2 was at least 92% without the little nose feed thing. They gave me a plastic doohicky to inhale through from time to time to help me start taking deeper breaths.

That surgery was utterly minor compared to what Richard had. Here's hoping he's breathing deeply and comfortably soon, soon, soon.

Likewise. I can get to the hospital by bus if you and/or Richard want company and/or moral support. I can't help much with errands, but please let me know if there's anything I can do.
