We thought the earliest he might be discharged from the hospital was Saturday (today) but I got a surprise call at work on Friday saying that the doctor thought he was ready to go. So we spent the rest of the day getting him out of the hospital and moved into a semi-private room at Walker Methodist, a  big nursing-home complex right in our neighborhood. It's a kind of old-fashioned place with a slightly lived in look, but seems comfortable enough. The staff was very accommodating, making sure he got all the extra pillows that he needs to get comfortable and so on. His room has a nice view of leafy branches on a quiet residential street. It's a little cramped, but he should be moving around soon to use the common areas.

He had a 30-minute PT session today, and the therapist said he did great, and approved him to have a walker so he can get around by himself. He had yet to try this when I saw him last, at about noon. He was still worn out from the therapy session. His breathing is better each day, but he is still short of breath. The main thing bothering him now is recurring nausea. Since it seems to occur at about the same time each day, I suspect it's one of his meds. I mentioned it to the nurse and she said it was probably the pain medication. (How useful is that? A pain medication that causes more pain?). So she added one more pill to the big pile that he is taking already that is supposed to cut the nausea. Don't know yet if it helps.

The address is: Walker Methodist Health Care, 3737 Bryant Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409.
The main number is 612-284-8691. There is a private phone in his room, but please don't call him. His breathing isn't good enough yet that he feels comfortable talking on the phone. So far I can't even to get him to call his mother.

I expect that by the time Convergence is over he will be getting bored and ready for some guests. Right now he is still not concentrating well enough to even read, and is clearly not ready for friends bearing games. Once he's settled in and moving around more comfortably I think he'll be able to entertain guests down in the big lounge/cafeteria area on his floor where there are chairs and tables that could be used for game playing.
