Toyota mechanics service my Pontiac Vibe and they do a fine job. It was purchased used from a chain that includes Toyota dealerships, and they are great with it. The biggest difference between the two is $1-2K because the word "Toyota" is worth considerably more than the word "Pontiac."
The new Prius looks remarkably like a Matrix/Vibe. I would get one of those if I suddenly became car-lacking.
