A stealth reader points out that pretty much the only thing I've posted about all year is the state of the break-room refrigerator at work (still all clean!!). Well, there's more to my life than that! Um, I think. Let's see. I've been keeping my New Year's Resolution ALMOST perfectly, and it's now February. My Res was to exercise every day, with one day off per week. In other words, get at least 30 minutes of formal exercise 6 days out of 7. I've managed it every week this year except for 2 weeks where it was only 5 days. This has apparently tired me out so much that I haven't had time to do anything else even moderately interesting.

I tend to hibernate in the winter. Sleep more than usual, avoid people, occupy my time with simple repetitive activities. I'm not exactly full of pep and good cheer this winter, but having survived the most unpleasant January weather I can remember since I left Connecticut is some sort of accomplishment I guess.

Hmm. We actually got 2 inches of snow this past week. I wonder if there's enough out there for skiing. I'll give it a try later on. It looks like the sun is even coming out...

The sun is out! I hope you are enjoying it, and congrats on doing so well with your NY's resolution. I've been thinking I need to do something like that, too - my form of hibernation is spending most of my time bent over a computer keyboard.

Speaking Of Which: have you seen the Sims2 yet? They age! (toddlers turn into teens, then adults, then old people). They have lifelong aspirations as well as daily needs! the 3D graphic quality is wonderful, and you can zoom in at an angle that puts you right in the room with them. You can even watch them go through pregnancy! (They get maternity leave from their jobs - and the jobs now include days off and PTO time.)

Historical health note (added a year later)

This was one of the few NY Resolutions I ever kept for longer than a month. Worth trying again. Just a note: at this point I weighed 258 pounds, having just gained 3 pounds during the holidays. I managed to lose those 3 pounds over the next 3 months, but no more than that, even though I was logging food and sort of half-assed trying to watch my diet.

When I started the exercise program I was barely at Level 1, meaning that one unit of exercise was enough to tire me out enough so that I still noticed it the next day. One unit is: walk 2 miles, or bike 5 miles, or swim 18 minutes, or workout in gym for 20-25 minutes. It took at least 2 months before I noticed any improvement at all, but eventually I did get stronger.
