Yes, the floor is definitely the highlight of the room. A refinished floor was my ultimate goal from the start, but so much else had to be done first that I didn't believe I'd ever get there. It looks spacious because it actually IS. It's 400 square feet (14' x 23' plus the gables). But it took 6 weeks of non-stop cleaning and decluttering to get to the point where that was obvious. It's currently the only room in our house with wide open spaces and no clutter, and I love going up there. Even though it still smells a little bit of new varnish and makes me cough.
For the last two walls I'm planning on more barn wood. I still have a box of weathered shingles that I got from Geri Sullivan before she moved away. I used those on the south wall over the stairs and they look great with the weathered lumber elsewhere on the walls. I have a line on some barn wood from country relatives, but it may be a while until that comes through.
For the ceiling, I would like sheet rock. But it's a really difficult sheet rock job and I've had no luck so far finding anyone that can/will do it. My backup plan is to use lightweight white-washed paneling. I suppose if all else fails, fabric is a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion.
