Besides the annoyance of having to go out, my main objection was having the phone that I paid extra to buy unlocked LOCKED TO A NETWORK. However, it turned out not to be an issue. When I joined Cricket about 4 years ago they were still using a SIM. So I was able to swap the SIM from my old phone into my new phone and voila!
