Whew. New toys are a lot of work
Jun. 10th, 2006 09:44 pmI've spent the entire day on it, but I think I've finally mastered this phone. Somehow it took me about an hour, and 5 or 6 different phone calls (some of them, "Please hold while I connect you to the right department") but I finally got the phone activated and my old Cingular number switched over. I can call out on the new phone, but incoming calls are still going to the old phone for 24 hours. That's fine, since nobody ever calls me on my cell anyway. I was pleased to hear that I don't have to call Cingular myself and terminate that service - it all gets taken care of between the phone companies. I wasn't looking forward to another round of voice mail hell.
I've figured out how to take pictures and videos, how to make entries in the address book (much harder than it should have been due to some features being completely undocumented. Thank goodness for online user forums), and how to customize the menu buttons. I took a picture of the backyard and turned it into my screen background. I never understood why people do that until I tried it. It's somehow comforting to see a picture of your own happy place when you look at your phone. I figured out how to look up numbers in the phonebook by verbal command (a very cool feature).
I also determined, after much poking around, that there was no way to move pictures back and forth between my computer and my camera without buying a piece of software that really should have been included with the phone, considering the price of the thing. Fortunately I was able to buy it online and download it. It works. It's actually pretty slick. I only intended to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer, but I sent a few the other way when I realized that I could put a little picture with each phone book entry. Hee hee.
