That worked out even better than I expected. Dems handily took the House: no surprise there. But as of 2am it's looking very much like the Senate is either split down the middle or with a razor-thin majority for the Dems! Good Lord, Montana, how long does it take you to count your measly 300,000 votes??? Snap it up, you guys! Everybody's waiting....

It looks like Pawlenty squeaked out 4 more years in the governorship, but he's lost his entire support system: Secretary of State (thank God!), State Auditor, Secretary General, and both houses of the legislature. It was sort of overlooked in all the hoohah at the top of the ticket, but the DFL picked up NINETEEN seats in the Minnesota House, converting the slim Republican majority to a DFL majority of 85 to 49! Wow. I didn't even realize they were up for elections this year. There wasn't a peep out of my state legislators, both incumbents essentially running unopposed (okay, there may have been a token Republican on the ballot, but nobody paid much attention to that).

And Instant Runoff Voting actually WON in Minneapolis!!! How cool is that?!

Both Virginia and Montana appear, as of this morning, to be Dem. The margin's pretty thin, but it's there. In Virginia, the vote on CNN says 99% of precincts and the Dem ahead by 7847 votes.

I wonder how long it'll take for them to finalize...

Woohoo! and if Hatch were a better candidate the Dems might've won there, too.

And thanks to the efforts of [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K (at Minicon? Convergance? some dang con...), I knew all about the issue and voted a hearty YES!

And -- oddly -- so did many others who never talked to K.

*heh* That's what surprised me. I was sure the electorate (those who hadn't talked to K, that is) would be too confused by the proposal and just skip it. Heck, the way it was described in the amendment confused ME.

Weeks, assuming they do recounts in both states.

That's what I thought, too. I did not expect it to win.

I'm amused that now it'll be the GOP that's 'bitching' about needing recounts. They didn't seem to think them necessary before! ;->
