Biked to work yesterday!
May. 2nd, 2007 04:15 pmAnd home again, too, for a total of 24 miles. It was windier than I like, but easier on the homeward leg when the wind was... not exactly at my back, but at least not a headwind.
Time: more than 1-1/2 hours each way. I was moving slowly, even for me, especially on the way in when I was riding against the wind. However, I didn't need a lot of resting time along the way. Stopped at the Hopkins Depot for a fruit drink, but only stayed about 10 minutes. On the way home I rested for about 5 minutes on the St. Louis Park Water Tower Bench.
Today: not bad at all. My legs aren't anywhere near as tired as after I took that little 2-mile walk last Friday, which unexpectedly wore me out. Apparently I can't be in shape for two things at once. You'd think that biking would use approximately the same muscles as walking (i.e., legs), but it doesn't work out that way.
Best stuff I saw: Turtles! And fields of dandelions! (not in the same place)
Best stuff I smelled: It's always a treat riding past the coffee roastery. I'd forgotten about that.

Date: 2007-05-02 10:28 pm (UTC)Based on my experience, I think that biking uses very different leg muscles than walking or running.
I think all of those exercises make use of the same aerobic capacity, however...

Date: 2007-05-02 11:30 pm (UTC)The coffee roastery smell is a fine one. It smells even better than it tastes. I find myself back on coffee these days. Fortunately, Cari Rose, the one currently working for CC, brings us wonderful stuff.
