Biked to work today, for the 2nd time this year. It was lovely this morning, although I expect it to be hot and steamy this evening when I ride home. Rode the whole 12 miles with no rest stops. Didn't feel tired at all until the last couple of miles, when my pace started to lag. Wonderful smells: lilacs in full bloom everywhere, the smell of ABSOLUTELY fresh-cut grass (I rode so close to the guy on the lawn-mowing-machine that my pedal almost brushed the mower). Coffee smelled a little burnt this morning - maybe they were doing French Roast? New birds: bluejay, cardinal, and kildeer.

Killdeer! How cool. I love when they play like their wings are broken.

This one wasn't doing that (yet) but it seemed a little hysterical, dipping back and forth over the bike path and screeching. I think she's going to be sorry that she built her nest right by the bike path.

You are amazing! Wonderful on you! Just think - after the ride home you get to take a shower, unlike at the office where you just have to be sweaty all day.
Love the lilacs...

We have a shower available at work, fortunately. Usually I take a shower when I get here, but I didn't bother today because I wasn't really that sweaty. I bring along a change of clothes, and that seemed like enough this time. It wasn't hot out, and I didn't ride especially fast.

In full summer it really wouldn't be feasible to bike to work without a shower on the premises. More and more offices are providing them these days. I think it's the single most effective thing a company can do to encourage healthy exercise in their employees (despite the typical self-serving response you hear from "experts" on the subject, who usually say "education" is the most important thing. Honestly, most people don't need to be "educated" that they should be exercising more; they need a practical way to fit it into their lives.)
