I would probably have vegetated today and missed out on a gorgeous afternoon if my friend Trisha hadn't talked me into yet another bike ride. It was a beautiful day for a ride, although a little breezy. We explored just a little bit of the Cedar Lake Trail. I definitely want to go back up there and check out the nest of trails in that area. I used to think that the "prairie" trail segments were boring, but I'm developing an appreciation for the subtle beauty of prairie. It's always changing - different flowers, smells, birds. And there is something heart-lifting about cruising along in the open spaces where you can see the sky spread out in front of you, and the spires of the city rising above the trees. Rode out along the Midtown Bike Path from Bryant Ave, but came back along the lakes. Crowded, but cheerful, with all the kids and dogs and sparkling water on the lakes.

Ended up to be 12 miles. I didn't find it hard while riding, but now I am well and truly exhausted. In one week (Sunday-Sunday), I have ridden 87 miles!

Speaking of prairies

When I'm up at my brother's farm I try to take a 'walk in the quiet' at least once. Because of those walks I seem to have developed an appreication of the landscape. Actually, I've come to enjoy late fall days when everything's bedding itself down for winter. Everythings brown, but not 'just' brown--gold, sable, rust, pale pale blond--all the rainbow.
