Looking around the house for something to sell (out of work, y'know), I can't help but notice the 60-odd boxes of mostly old comic books. Hey, didn't Richard promise to sell his collection one day when the kids were ready for college? Sure, he made that promise when the kids were in diapers, never really believing that time would march on like it has. But the kids are pretty much out of college and we are (not entirely coincidentally) pretty much out of money. So what better time, right? Ignoring the whimpers and pleading looks from the comics collector himself I started looking up stuff on the Internet and concluded that some of these things really are worth money, even in their rather unimpressive state of preservation. After reading up on the grading standards and looking at lots of scanned in comic book covers on Ebay, I think the Silver Age stuff ranges from VG- to at least FN, maybe a little better in some instances.

Anybody have any advice on selling vintage comics? Is it better to sell them as a complete collection, in small consecutive runs (e.g., Hulk #1-10) or as individual issues? And if anybody local has any experience actually grading comics, would you be willing to look at a few of the comics and help us appraise the grade?

A suggestion would be to talk with Denny - who sold his comics through Dreamhaven - or talk with Greg.

I think Denny sold his on commission, though I may be incorrect.

If you're interested in attempting to sell through ebay/amazon, I've just ordered the ebay hacks and amazon hacks through bookpool. I'm planning on getting rid of some books.

Let me know if my suggestions do any good?

Good luck!

I think individuals always sell better than runs, though it is more work.
