Nothing cataclysmic, just not one thing going right.

Development managers were snipping at me for the way I was updating bug reports. I don't think it's my fault their target fields keep disappearing. I think it's a bug in Bugzilla.

Wasted the entire day trying to get my testbed, which was working adequately yesterday, to function well enough so that I could repeat a test that failed yesterday. I finally concluded that my main storage device was seriously flaky, causing the Windows hosts to keep losing their disks, causing them to hang so hard that they had to be powercycled. Repeatedly. When I finally replaced the faulty storage device with another one, traffic started running, but apparently through hyperspace. Iometer claimed to be running with no errors, but the port stats on the switches along the way show zero traffic. WTF?

Two of my carefully labeled cables turned out to have their labels swapped (they both said AA1 on one end and AA2 on the other). I fixed that, but I still couldn't get System 7 to connect to the switch. It worked YESTERDAY, dammit.

I finally got 3 streams of traffic running well enough to do the testcase, and then the guy came around with the big vacuum cleaner, which always drives me out of the place. Jeez, that thing is loud. So ultimately, I got pretty much nothing done. Which means that I am now definitely behind on my testcases, and will need to abandon my plan to take vacation next week. I can probably still get away with Thursday and Friday, but I'll have to give up on a half-baked plan to drive up to the Range and bike the Mesabi trail in the early part of the week.

I was SO looking forward to biking to work tomorrow, now that the heat wave has broken. The bike's been riding kind of rough, so I hosed off the dirt and flipped it over to oil the chain. That's when I discovered the broken spoke. Damn. I thought I might have an extra spoke in my bike toolbox. When I opened it up I discovered that the toolbox had been sitting in a leaky part of the bike shed and was full of water, rust and MOLD. I had to throw away everything with paper packaging, hose out the toolbox and clean everything in it. I found the extra spoke, but by the time I got the wheel off the bike two more spokes had loosened up and it was beginning to look beyond my limited skillz. I guess I'll take the wheel to work with me and see if I can find a bike shop that will fix the spoke without making me leave the wheel over the weekend.

I do have old Rocinante, but it would probably be stupid to ride 24 miles on a bike seat I haven't sat on for months. Besides, I have to give a presentation to the group at 10:30am tomorrow, so it would be a particularly bad day to break down on the way to work.

Ow! That does sound like a tough day. Hopefully it gets the crap out of the way for a while now.
