Planning for the Fringe
Jul. 26th, 2007 12:56 pmThe Fringe Festival starts one week from today! It's time to start making plans. Richard and I both plan to buy Ultrapasses and do the full-immersion thing again. We'll be looking for showtime companions for any of the 13 days. When you have an Ultrapass, everything is free, so we'll consider practically any show if it fits into our plans for the day.
Looking through the show descriptions online, it seems to me that the emphasis this year has shifted away from monologues and short plays and is tilting way too heavily towards clowns/dance/multimedia/puppet shows. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy a little spectacle and color to break up the day, but the main thing I like about theater is the WORDS. I definitely want to see this one, and this one and anything by the Scrimshaw Brothers. But what happened to all those shows that did 4 or 5 short skits in an hour? I can't find a single show like that in this year's lineup!
