I have done almost nothing for the last... oh, two weeks (?) but research comic dealing. Somehow this has turned into way more than a fulltime job already and I not only haven't made a cent, I'm down $134 (for the comics bags, Overstreet Price Guide, Overstreet Grading Guide, etc.). I'm beginning to understand why so many people think about selling their comics and then never get around to it. *yeesh*

However, today I posted my first comics auction on Ebay! Based on my extensive research (looking at other people's completed auctions) I realize that there is a good chance that it will run the whole 10 days and not get a single bid, but at least it's out there. After weeks of perusing listings for superhero comics, dinosaur and gorilla theme covers, and Archie comics, I finally took the plunge with: Firehair, White Daughter of the Sioux #8. Why? Mostly because it's not a very valuable comic, nobody in the house loves it, and it's gotten separated from the other Westerns, making it a natural target for elimination. I didn't want to risk screwing up the Ebay listing with something I care about, y'see.

If anybody reading this has any experience with selling things on Ebay, or even buying things on Ebay, I would really really appreciate it if you would look at my listing and give me feedback. Is it a good listing? Inviting? Easy to respond to? Any suggestions for improving my format?

And, of course, feel free to bid if you have a soft spot for pseudo-feminist westerns with politically incorrect references to "Redskins" on the cover...

Good luck. At this rate you'll sell your comics collection in, what, 200 years?

But, think of what they'll be worth by then!

Ha! Ha, I say, ha! I'm now up to FOUR comic auctions listed. Putting me another $3.40 in debt for listing fees. Nothing can stop me now - I'm going to keep listing comics until I totally run out of money. Or actually get a bid on something, whichever happens first. Man, this is such a great idea as an alternative to employment!

I don't know from comics, but just generally as an eBay listing, it looks great. The picture is clear, the description is complete, and you have specified the shipping amount (lack of the latter usually causes me not to bind on things).

Good luck!

My experience with Ebay was mixed; the only thing that sold was a set of Sex in the City DVDs, which was the only item I offered that had a ready market.

Fantaseers@yahoogroups.com is a Twin Cities-based mailing list whose core membership is comics fans. You might find it useful to join, at least for saying what you have that you want to sell. You might get offers; you'd very likely get advice about selling.
