Here's the temporary lanyard case I made yesterday out of an old Motorola phone case. The nice thing about this case is that it is relatively tough but translucent enough to read the screen through. I realized too late that I should have positioned the iPod the other way up so that I could see the screen when I held it up in front of me. Oh, well, it still beats sticking the thing in a pocket. I'm not really accustomed to the idea of a screen and menu anyway, since the only other iPod I have ever owned is a shuffle. Mostly I want to be able to pause and adjust the volume with one hand while I'm biking. I'm not quite used to the "swipe the thumb along the wheel" method of volume control, but I can get to the controller easily enough.

Hmmm. Do you ever think you may have become a prisoner of your equipment? I only ask because I know I have. Here's an upgrade idea for your new device holder: cut a circle with an exacto knife where the wheel is - that way you can get to the wheel for turning while it is in the case. I did that to my Rube Goldberg iPod holder so that I can change the volume while I am on the treadmill/whatever at the gym.

Of my possessions in general, definitely. The things that one might call "equipment" tend to give more back to their owner on a daily basis than most of the other stuff. I've certainly gotten a huge amount of pleasure out of my iPod shuffle. I suppose that means that I have become dependent on it to some extent, but that's kind of the price of life.

I guess you can't really see it in the picture, but I already did that. What did you make your iPod holder out of?

I used a cellphone holder that was on closeout at the Bookstore at the U. It is the perfect size for my iPod, and it clips to my waistband.
