Last night it became clear that Something Bad was about to happen, probably today. It's worse than any of us imagined - 15-20% of the site. I'm still here, but there's no joy in it. I knew I should have been updating the old resume as things started looking dubious, but now I'm really doing going to do it.

They're doing this Angel of Death style, which is more personal than some of the other methods (like the Corporate Lockout and Big Meeting Offsite), but really draws out the drama. You're not sure whether to stay at your desk so they can find you right away if you're on the list, or join the crowds in the halls whispering about who's been taken. At least they're not doing the Escort You to the Door thing. The walking dead are allowed to say their goodbyes and exchange contact info.

How insanely stressful. I'm glad you still have your job, though.

Exactly my sentiments, for both things.

It's not so much stressful as depressing, and sort of exhausting. I need to start job hunting right now, but I don't feel like I have the energy.

Depressing and exhausting = stress. Take some time and process, I suggest.

Ugh. You'd think, having had so goddamned much practice at this laying off of people, corporations would figure out how to do it better.

I don't even know what kind of luck to wish you, but whatever kind you want, I hope you get it.

Well, if you're wishing for luck, go all out and pray for a marketing miracle. The earlier incarnation of this company has had at least one sudden reprieve from certain death when they finally landed a big account at the last possible moment. Could happen.

As for layoff methodology - I'm not sure there is a good way to do it. This approach seems as good as any I can think of.

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear this, but glad you've still got your job, and hoping things resolve soon and well.
