Yesterday I made a boring and inoccuous post that attracted the following spam posting from a "user" called blog_ubscribe. I immediately deleted it, checking the boxes for ban-this-user and flag-as-spam.

Subject: New LJ catalog

We are filling Internet journals catalog and have added a link to your journal there. View the link here:
http://blog.ubscribe.com/show.php?flet=d&page=2#dreamshark In order to confirm the listing please place a link to our catalog in your journal or add this user to your friends list. Leave as is if not interested and we'll remove the listing.

Today they were back again, using a different username: "journalcatalog."
One more and I'll file an abuse report.

Has anybody else seen this?

Now, THAT was weird

While I was making this post, the new spam comment disappeared from my LJ! I didn't delete it. The only way I know for sure I ever saw it is from the email notification I received. I can only assume that LJ Powers That Be are moving on them. Wow. I had no idea they were so efficiently ruthless. Good for them.

I got one too. The user was later banned. I also reported it as spam and blocked the user from my journal.

I did visit the URL and as far as I can tell all they're trying to do is sell domain names. To which I say, "Whatever."

That, and provide a list of LJ bloggers for other spammers.

Was that the person who spammed your October 3 entry regarding what your friends were doing in Europe?

I don't think so, but I don't actually remember that one. I get spam now and then, and I just delete it (flagging it as spam) and forget about it. This particular one alarmed me because of the implication that they were busily harvesting LJ accounts for spamming purposes.

Actually, that comment was directed at [livejournal.com profile] tesla_aldrich, as I noticed new comment spam in her entry of that date.

Yup, that was the one.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know the user was banned?

Because when the comment disappeared, in its place there appeared a message saying that 1 comment from a banned user had been deleted.

Yes, indeed.

My inner gargoyle is chortling over the idea that my journal should be SOOOOO popular that everyone must read me! :::grin:::

Hi, by the way. I'm Patty, and I found you in circuitous fashion through your Dreamshark page, and via that through the webpage for Minicon. I may or may not be a stalker, but I *am* a fellow F/SF and comics.

That should read "fellow F/SF and comics aficionado".

I am not yet a comic book, although others have tried! [giggle]

I was picturing you as a graphic novel.

Yeah. I got that too. Kinda weird. Any idea what it is? I didn't want to click on the link...I was afraid of what it might be I guess.

Quoting myself here:

"I did visit the URL and as far as I can tell all they're trying to do is sell domain names. To which I say, 'Whatever.'"

Mine came from user "ubscribeblog" and had the additional weirdness of being difficult to delete. I had to follow the "delete the comment" link in the email because when I went to the entry itself, I couldn't see the comment. When I tried reading it from my LJ Inbox, it said I wasn't authorized to view the comment! Good thing it was mailed to me or it might exist in some limbo state still!
