Once again, I'm starting to regain lost weight now that the biking season is over and the weather is too dismal to do anything outdoors. I really enjoyed skating last year, but the outdoor rinks didn't open until mid-January because of the inconsistent temperature. I'm going to try indoor rinks this winter, starting now. If I can force myself out the door into the November chill I'm going down to The Depot for the skating rink opening day. Despite the inordinate cost ($8 admission!). It's the only indoor rink open on a Wednesday night.

When does the downtown traffic clear up? I'm thinking maybe 7? (The rink is purportedly open until 9).

Downtown traffic, on nights when the Woofies are playing in town, tends to clear up after the game starts. And it gets sucky again when the game is over.

It wasn't too bad tonight around 7 (I'm assuming it's because of the holiday).

We have a team called Woofies? Well, no dumber than Gophers, I suppose.

I did indeed go skating. Got down there about 7:30 and there wasn't much traffic. The ice was pretty crowded, although the crowd thinned out considerably over the next hour as the younger teens went home.

Funny. I usually lose weight in the winter. I have more time to devote to exercise, being inside the house. And there are no BBQs with lovely things like ribs. Well, fewer, I should say!

Huh. I thought the phenomenon of gaining weight in the winter was practically universal, at least in northern climates. Most people attribute it to all the rich food around "The Holidays," but I think it's the darkness.

oh, fun....

What will I do about my skates? I wanna go skating toooooooo!

(In our last episode, my new skates caused incredible shin splints within seconds of putting them on and skating in them. Maybe try skating with my old ones [1/2 size too small now] or in whatever they have for rental skates?)

You know, considering that I've lived downtown for just over a year I don't really notice the traffic. Even during rush hours the traffic here (Henn & 11th) doesn't seem all that bad.

Have you thought about driving to the nearls LRT station and taking the train in? There's a station downtown pretty close to The Depot.

I'm thinking of going again tomorrow, maybe right when they open to get a chance at good ice. Why don't you come along, and bring both pairs of skates. Wear your lightest pair of socks and try the new ones. If they start to hurt your feet, switch to the old ones. If that fails you can always rent a pair.
