The Final Grind
Dec. 20th, 2007 11:11 amI wish I were one of those people that anticipates holidays with excitement rather than free-floating anxiety, but there's something to be said for the magic of low expectations. If we all make it to the holidays alive and not hospitalized, I feel a sense of relief. And to be honest, I have now set my expectations of Christmas itself low enough that it's almost always more pleasurable than I expect it to be.
Anyway, despite failing appliances, a family car accident, and being predictably behind on everything - things seem to be pretty much okay right now. The new stove got installed on schedule yesterday (yay!). We haven't heard from the garage about the van, but nobody was hurt. The refrigerator is rattling a little, but still working. I've bought enough Christmas presents to fulfill the rather limited role I've carved out for myself in Christmas preparation, and we've invited enough people to the Caroling Party that it should work out acceptably (although the inviting is always so scattered, I'm amazed that anybody ever shows up).
Today, I have one thing I MUST do - book a trip to Arizona in the first week in January. My brother from Germany will be visiting my Mom until Jan 7, and I want to overlap his visit since we haven't seen each other in years. Also, my Mom seems to be declining fast enough now that... well, it seems like a good time to visit.

Date: 2007-12-20 07:42 pm (UTC)Well, one would hope so.
It's working, just making a noise. Actually, it's making the noise I generally associate with most of the working refrigerators I've owned, so I didn't really notice it at first. The freezer, on the other hand, is working GREAT.
