Got this from
barondave. I don't do too many memes, but I enjoyed reading his answers and wondering what mine would be. So... (also being bored at work) I decided to find out. None of these things are necessarily my Four Favorite anythings, just what popped out.
A) Four jobs I have had in my life
1. Bartending
2. Painting Alaska tourist pictures on bisqueware, signed with a fake "Eskimo name"
3. Legal secretary
4. Technical instructor
B) Four movies I would watch over and over
I don't typically watch movies "over and over," but here's some I've watched more than twice:
1. Lion in Winter
2. Raising Arizona
3. My Fair Lady
4. The Wizard of Oz
C) Four places I have lived (long enough to receive mail)
1. Brevard, North Carolina - first place I can recall as a child
2. Sanford, Maine - my favorite place I lived as a child
3. East Lansing, Michigan - first place away from home (college)
4. Anchorage, Alaska - most exotic place I've lived
D) Four TV shows that I watch
1. Survivor
2. Heroes
3. Er... does Netflix count?
4. If it does... West Wing and The Wire
E) Four places I have been
1. Mt. McKinley National Park (before it was renamed Denali)
2. Transylvania
3. The Rock of Gibraltar
4. Bisbee, Arizona
F) People who e-mail me regularly
I don't seem to carry on regular email correspondence. Intermittent flurries, yes. Regular and continuing, no.
G) Four of my favorite foods
1. Buttered toast (whole wheat, real butter)
2. Roast beef with potatoes, carrots and onions
3. Chocolate almond ice cream
4. A perfectly ripe peach
H) Four places I would rather be right now
1. St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands) - snorkeling
2. Belize, on the adventure kayak trip I've been faunching after
3. Ice skating on a perfect winter day on an improbably glassy smooth lake
4. Hiking along a mountain trail on a summer day with the smell of pines all around
J) Four things I am looking forward to this year
1. Skating class this Saturday
2. Minnstf meeting this Saturday (after which I will no longer be a Board member!)
3. Breakfast with a friend this Sunday
... hmmm. I don't seem to be thinking very far into the future today. Isn't there anything I'm looking forward to that's more than a week away?
4. The first bike ride of spring (Apparently that's as far ahead as I can imagine)
K) Four favorite authors
1. Mark Twain
2. Rudyard Kipling
3. Arthur Conan Doyle
4. John Steinbeck

Date: 2008-02-22 03:53 am (UTC)Bisqueware is fired but unglazed clay. We were painting little pictures on plates, mugs, salt-shakers and the like with some kind of special black paint. Pictures like silhouettes of moose wading in rivers and skeletal pine trees marching up the sides of mountain ravines. My "Eskimo name" was Abah. It wasn't really a name, just a random Inuit word picked out of a language dictionary. I don't remember what it meant. I think it might have been a preposition or something.
"Reading your "four places" answer, I had "The Happy Wanderer" running through my head."
Coincidentally, one of my favorite songs. Which I only have a recording of thanks to you.
