Exactly 23 years ago today we moved from Toonerville to Dream Park - in a raging snowstorm. Driving to work today, in a raging snowstorm, brought it all back. In a way, it's nice to know that in the midst of all this global warming Minnesota can still rustle up an April Fool's Weather Surprise.
Okay, guys, good joke. It can go ahead and melt now.

Date: 2008-03-31 06:13 pm (UTC)This is, after all, our first winter THIS MILLENNIUM with a significant amount of snow. The last 4 or 5 years I've had my bike on the road by mid-March every spring. This is something I could not have done throughout most of the 1990's even if I had wanted to because I can't open the door to the bike shed until the mound of ice that forms there has melted away.
This isn't a Global Warming winter, it's just an odd throwback to the winters we used to have. It's been kind of funny hearing people complain about how COOLLLLDDD it was this year, and how SNOWWWWYYYY. Even when you include the warming trend in the past 8 years, this one was pretty much at the 30-year-average for both snow and cold. But we've already adjusted to the new warmer winters and are now surprised by snow and cold.

Date: 2008-03-31 06:39 pm (UTC)I agree: It was warm this winter, overall. I didn't put on gloves all season (though that's partially because I wasn't outside too much when it was really cold).
