A couple of hundred yards from the Hiawatha Golf Course clubhouse, my right ski-boot finally decided that it was permanently tired of being gripped by its nose and declined to participate any longer. After it had spontaneously parted company with the binding 3 times in 5 minutes, I gave up and just set my foot gently on the ski and pushed it the rest of the way. That was yesterday.

Today I went to Midwest Mountaineering and bought a whole new ski outfit - new boots, poles and skis, PLUS new bindings for my old skis. It came to about $250, which was less than I had expected. Actually, I don't think it was much more than I paid for the first set back in 1970-something. I'm looking forward to trying them out tomorrow.
