On Sunday we were coming back from somewhere to the southwest, Richard driving. As we navigated the difficult merge from I-494 eastbound to I-35W northbound my thought process went something like this. "Aieee, this is a nasty intersection, and I used to do this every day at rush hour! I'm glad this ramp is closed so I don't have to drive this way anymore."

About a minute later, my brain finished processing that thought. Wait a second. If the ramp is closed, then how did...? *think think think*

OMG! The north half of the clover leaf is open again!! When did that happen?
Does this mean we're finally coming over the hump on the endless Crosstown Commons Construction?? Maybe there's hope yet this year for the 46th Street ramps reopening????

Alas, probably not

The ramp is scheduled to re-open in fall of 2009, so I doubt it. I think for the most part the entire spaghetti-like six-dimensional project is on schedule rather than ahead. You can subscribe to emails from Minneapolis Traffic Alerts and find out for sure.

Good tip!

There's also a MN-DOT page about the project: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/projects/crosstown/

It will NEVER be done. NEVER. We will live the rest of our days with random closings, unfinished projects, and danger at our (car) doors.

Actually, the project is supposed to be finished in 2010.

I'm reminded of my all-time favorite Guindon cartoon.

One old farmer to another: "I was down t' the Cities once. They were tryin' to fix the streets. Heard they still are."
