Last Minute Local Ballot Help

You probably know who you're voting for in the presidential and Senate races, but do you still need some guidance on local races?

Here's a cool website (thanks mizzlaurajean!) that might help. The nice thing about it is that these folks have really done their homework and will give you not just an endorsement but exactly WHY they recommend the way they do.

I'm trying to find an online version of the newspaper voter's guide where they have each candidate give a statement. Anybody have a link?

I got to the Strib's voter's guide page (like the one you're looking for) by clicking on the "My Vote" dialog on the Strib's main page.

Shame I didn't find that site before. Fortunately, there's only one race where the additional information might have flipped my vote. I voted for the DFL endorsed candidate for Soil and Water Supervisor District 3, but considered voting for Paul Sawyer, who theballot endorses. As they say, it's nearly impossible to make an informed decision there.

I'm sad that they couldn't endorse either candidate in the Supreme Court 4 race. I tried my best and settled on Hedlund, not realizing that she was a "rabid right wing-Christian homophobe". Hopefully she'll either lose or turn out to be the lesser of two evils after all.

Richard and I looked up both court candidates in that race on the Strib site (qualifications, endorsements, candidate statements) I must say that both of them seem to be extremely well qualified. I've heard of Hedlund before, and she has a pretty good reputation as a judge. So, while both of them may hold conservative political/social opinions at least they are balanced (or smart) enough not to showcase them in their statements of belief. And at least they're both competent. Unlike Rahn V. Workcuff, the nutcase running for Soil and Water Conservation Board, whose "My Issues" statement reads thusly:

I strongly agree that a marriage should be only between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of same sex marriages. I strongly agree that all MN residence should have affordable health insurance. even if it means new or added cost to businesses. I strongly agree that we dont need anymore increase in taxes, we are all ready being taxed to death. I strongly agree that an increase of funding should be put towards educating our children in grade k - 12. I strongly agree funding should be allocated toward natural resources conservation.
