Whooeee! I successfully accomplished three things I had been putting off for lack of time in just over an hour: got my hair cut, my oil changed, and my tank full of gas. Y'know, when I was 20 I never imagined the sort of things that would excite me 30 years later. Not a pretty picture...

Now, of course, I'm falling into the eternal energy sink of working on Minicon Programming. Answering email, sending emails to people I haven't got in touch with yet, touching base with people that are supposed to be doing things for me or with me. Updating the spreadsheet. Saving the spreadsheet so all will not be lost when Excel 97 suddenly remembers that it doesn't like Windows XP (which it does about once a week, freezing my computer solid). Looking through bulging mail folders for email from people who volunteered for things and got filed instead of scheduled. Reviewing peoples' scheduling requirements and realizing that my entire Friday schedule is now impossible.

I have a schedule now, in one of my many Excel worksheets, but it's totally in flux, as I add people to items and then realize that I now have to rearrange everything. Sometimes I look at this thing and think how much fun it would be to have time to attend all these wonderful programming items. Other times, I am horrified by the lack of balance, the people I never even thought to ask to be on panels, the people I've overused because they just happened to volunteer at the right moment. What was I thinking, promising to start Programming at 10 am. Is anybody REALLY up then? Yes, yes, I know there's an audience at that time, but I'm talking about panelists?

Will I ever have time to watch my latest Netflix arrival?

Whee! Found another panelist for Future in Space. Every now and then you do get something useful out of those volunteer reports from registration. (I wonder if he really is a "satellite physicist?" If not, I hope he fakes it well.)

I even checked off my list one more annoying-task-that-has-been-hanging-over-my-head. Drove over to Midwest Mountaineering to retrieve the skis that I left there to have new bindings put on and then more or less forgot about when the snow went away. It wasn't a very nice drive, what with the rain and rush hour traffic, but I got them. I wonder what was going on in that "This American Life" story I caught the tail end of. "Dad, I have to tell you something. Mom's been living a double life. She has another name, another apartment, and a secret boyfriend. Also, she's a substitute teacher."
