When were Band-aids invented? 100 years ago? It's hard to imagine life without bandaids. The technology hasn't changed in my memory, which now stretches back around 50 years. Different sizes, shapes and colors, sure. And some minor materials experimentation with the part that sticks to the skin. But basically, the concept is always the same, and it never really made much difference whether you used Clear Strips, Flexible Strips or Classic.
But sometime in the last few years, a whole new generation of band-aids has emerged. They are gelatinous, stretchy, uniformly sticky along the underside. They mold to the shape of a toe or finger so perfectly that you almost can't see them once they are applied. You don't have to change the bandaid every day to keep the skin underneath from turning sluglike; I guess they must be porous. The idea appears to be: you put the thing on and leave it until the wound or blister is healed. This is it, man, I am throwing out all my old-technology bandaids from this point forward!
