Our big seasonal party is over

... and it was great! Despite the frigid weather, the constant bombardment of Weather Alerts through all possible media and an ongoing Minneapolis Snow Emergency, we had our biggest turnout EVER for our caroling party! We ran out of chairs, we ran out of caroling books, but we DID NOT run out of food Richard produced his usual pots and pots of hot food, and due to generous guests constantly adding to the groaning board in the dining room we may have had more food at the end than we had when we started. This year we had an almost 50/50 mixture of Fans and Others, with many of the Others being from one or the other of the Rise Up Singing groups that Richard attends.

Thanks to all who attended, and a continuing thanks to [livejournal.com profile] skylarker for the handsomely produced "new" versions of our lyrics sheet that she gifted us with a few years back!

I had a great time, with surprise visits from old friends and talking politics and such. Even got a few Fa la la's in.

Party

Sharon, thank you so much for continuing to do this. Louie and I, as you know, did not stay for the whole thing, but were very happy to be there for a stretch. I do note with just a hint of mind-boggling just how many Christmas songs there are that I simply don't know, and I do note that Mark on guitar did a fine job of accompanying several of the songs I drew a blank on. The Rise Up Singing friends and we fans seemed to hit it off just fine in general, and I am all the more pleased to meet bunches of Neat New People at this kind of event. (Who was the unfortunate -- or fortunate? -- woman who had never heard "Deck Us All with Boston Charlie" before?) And of course the party is even more of a success if the hostess/ host(s) make it clear they were having a good time. Keep it up!

Nate

"(Who was the unfortunate -- or fortunate? -- woman who had never heard "Deck Us All with Boston Charlie" before?)"

That was one of the Rise Up Singing gang - Joannie? I guess it's been enough years now that it shouldn't be surprising to run into folks that don't remember Walt Kelly. She certainly got a kick out of it, though!

I have never yet made it to this party, and it always sounds so great. It seems that the Sunday before Christmas has been busy with prep for Christmas or editing to earn money for Christmas for more years than I care to count--and of course this year there is also the dread Clean Up for Minn-Stf NYE Party hanging over my head. Now that the kids are grown, maybe I can say, "Next year for sure."

Thank you for a great party and a great time. I'm happy to contribute however I can; no thanks necessary.

Glad to hear the singing went well - mostly I'm staying home and warm, but this sounded fun.
