I sort of slid into using gmail several years ago when Pegasus stopped working for me right about the time I was going to be traveling and needed webmail anyway. It's been reliable and handy, so I just stayed with it. The main thing I didn't like about it was the absence of hierarchical mail folders. The tagging system has never worked well for me because it just doesn't scale. I quickly ended up with over 100 tags, which display alphabetically. The tags I use most often always seemed to be hidden. And I had over a dozen tags relating to Minicon and Minnstf that were all over the place.

Well guess what! Gmail now supports hierarchical tagging! I am now happily reordering my tags into hierarchical pods that make it much easier to remember where I filed things. Along the way I'm discovering tags I had forgotten all about that could be eliminated, redundant tags that can be consolidated, etc. Best of all, a large percentage of my tags are now neatly folded up inside the Minicon hierarchy, allowing me to see all the rest of my tags!

About time, I say!!
