Father's Day meme gacked from

I don't remember my father when he was quite this young - I was only 2 years old. Daddy had just used his newly minted PhD in chemical engineering (courtesy of the GI BIll) to get his first real job at Olin Industries in Brevard, North Carolina. When this picture was taken I was probably an only child, but my sister came along in October of that year. Brevard was a small town then, nestled in the mountains of western NC right next to the Smoky Mountains National Park. It was a happy time for our little family. Olin offered an unusual company perk - the owner of the company had bought an old boy scout camp with picnic grounds with a lake and a swimming area, and made it available for free use by all employees and their families. So pretty much every day during the summer we would head over to Camp Strauss as soon as my Dad got home from work to have a swim and a picnic supper. My Dad spent many hours standing in chest deep water while his little daughters swam back and forth between him and the side of the pool. He complained that the bullfrog tadpoles were nibbling at his chest hair, but he kept on standing there. Consequently I can't remember a time when I could not swim. I owe it all to my Daddy.
