That's Uptown on a summer Sunday afternoon. Rag Stock still had some cheap striped socks, although not the same colors as last fall. There's an Apple Store on Hennepin now. Walking in there is like walking onto the set of "Gattaca". Now I'm at Lake Harriet listening to some band apparently named TicketstoBrazil.com.

ETA: so what is up with that goofy location? I posted this entry from the bike path right outside the Lake Harriet bandshell, which was in Minneapolis last time I looked. Olinger Road does exist and really is in Edina; according to Google maps it is almost 6 miles from the Lake Harriet Bandshell!

What the streaming Netflix interface really needs is a slot machine interface like many of the iPhone apps have. But failing that, I just use my game controller to bop around the rows and columns of mysterious movie icons until something catches my eye. Last night's foray into the unknown was a winner. It's a simple, lyrical little Irish indie movie about a fisherman who dredges a young woman out of the ocean in one of his fishing nets and what happens after that. The moody soundtrack and lovingly slow panning shots of the shoreline of County Cork, Ireland, are much of the movie's charm. So watch it on the biggest TV you have, not on your laptop.

It's written and directed by Neil Jordan, who also wrote/directed the "The Crying Game." Personally, I thought "Ondine" was the better movie. Not perfect, but well worth watching.
