I went through some kind of a Loser Portal in early fall, where I started losing various cherished items one after another. At some point they started coming back again, and I haven't lost anything lately. Here's hoping I've moved into a new phase of my life. It would be nice if I now started finding things I hadn't ever lost, but I'll settle for holding on to what I have. Here's what I can remember of the lost and then found:
Most of the above have returned to us. The lost jacket (with Razr phone in pocket) returned in the absolutely classic way - it turned up in a closet that had been searched multiple times. The two pieces of expensive electronica took long enough to reappear that I bought new ones, but only because there were worthy recipients in my family for the old ones if they should chance to come back. So now
thorintatge has a nice camera and Richard has an emergency cell phone to carry in his pocket when he's biking at night.
I was particularly tickled by the way the necklace returned to me. My skating instructor found it in the parking lot after class, immediately recognized it as mine, and returned it to me the following week. She said she'd noticed it because she thought it was particularly pretty. I'd gotten compliments on it that day at work, too, so I was particularly sad to lose it. It's a cheap little necklace that I made from beads I bought on impulse at Michael's, but I always liked it, and apparently others did too.
I'm still missing a cherished earring that I must have lost in the hotel at Minicon (a carved bone hand), but that was way back in the spring so it probably isn't part of the series. Strangely, we still can't find the two CDs by William Pint and Felicia Dale. I did, however, eventually find digital copies in one of the backups of my iTunes library, so at least I have the music back.
- My Razr cell phone.
- A favorite earring (looks like frosted glass, but lighter weight).
- A favorite necklace (the one with little pink roses)
- Richard's favorite jacket.
- The Razr cell phone... AGAIN.
- My Canon Powershot camera.
- Random songs from my iTunes library, and eventually the entire iTunes library when the hard disk finally died.
- The original CDs for two of the albums that had spontaneously disappeared off the hard disk *wah!)
