There's a new feature that makes it much easier to learn the keyboard shortcuts for the toolbar and menu items. Press just the Alt key and a little tip pops up over every visible icon and menu item with the number or letter that's next in the keyboard sequence.

Actually, it's not as cool as it seemed at first. A lot of the keyboard sequences don't really work. And it only shows you the sequences that start with ALT, which might lead you to use a cumbersome sequence like ALT-0-6 when a simpler one like CTL-B would do what you wanted. But it's an improvement over trying to memorize the full sequences by staring at the menus for hours.

And I did manage to get most of my favorite icons onto the single shortcut bar in Excel. Not all of them, of course, which is why I'm trying to memorize keyboard shortcuts.

Doesn't it allow you two rows worth of buttons any more?

Judging from comments I found on the Intertubes, a lot of people agree with us on that. In fact, pretty much every experienced user of Office seems to feel that way. New users may like it just fine.

Well, who knows...they had to pull Vista in favor of Windows 7, maybe they'll scrap the changes to Office if enough people complain. At least they could allow people to opt for the old interface.
