This is for you, chirosinger
Mar. 5th, 2009 03:52 pmWarning to everybody else: this is another installment in the endless technochatter thread about our new mini-laptops.
Remember how annoying it was when you discovered that even if you plugged your laptop into a monitor you still only got 1024x600 screen resolution? Turns out there's a way around that, at least on my Acer. If you configure a SECOND monitor you can assign it practically any resolution you want.
Go to the desktop settings window, to that same screen where you configure the screen resolution. See the two boxes labeled "1" and "2" floating right in the middle of your center of vision? (I don't know about you, but I never noticed them before. I'm bad with GUIs - I ignore the graphics and just read the text). Anyway, if you click on the big "2" you can configure settings for a second monitor. Although monitor #1 only allows a max resolution of 1024x600, monitor #2 goes all the way to 1920x1080!
I haven't actually tried USING the second monitor, since I'm at work and don't have an extra monitor cable lying around. But the guy who showed me how to do it has the same mini I do, and he says it works great.
