.... by Brandon Sanderson, Minicon 45's writer GoH. It's well-written, but much darker than I expected. Which isn't entirely a bad thing. I'm not much interested in fantasy these days, but when I do get sucked in by fantasy it's usually the kind with an undercurrent of horror. Anyway, once I opened the thing I stayed up past my bedtime before I managed to put it down.

On the other hand, if the rest of the book continues in the same vein as the first five pages, it may be too much even for my darker nature. I hope things lighten up pretty soon or I'm not going to make it through all 638 pages.

Read it; loved it.

Hang in with it. Admire the craft. Appreciate the neat little graphics on chapter pages. If you don't find it worth the time, ,,, er, can't replace the time, but I will buy you another book.

My first thought when I saw the header was "Gee, I didn't know Sharon took antidepressants."

Is there actually an anti-depressant named for the city of the damned?? Wow. The possible marketing tie-ins are stunning.

No, I don't think there is. But it sounds like it ought to be an antidepressant -- it matches the general naming conventions. Or maybe a small car.

*heh*

It does sound like it could be either one of those, doesn't it? I think maybe there is a car called Elantra, now that you mention it.

Based on my experience so far, I don't think Elantris the book would work very well as an anti-depressant. Although I've now passed page 150 and the mood does seem to be on an upward trend.

I loved the book. Yeah, it's dark, especially at the beginning. There's light in the characters though, and it will shine.

The book starts out with a lot of darkness, and maintains a lot of tension throughout, but the overall impact is very gratifying, as you'll see if you follow through.
