Good morning, sunshine! 5:45 am at Creolla, east window of master bedroom Good morning, sunshine! 5:45 am at Creolla, east window of master bedroom

Waking up for the first time in Creolla, we discover the first opportunity for improvement in the appointments of the villa - no window shades! There is no need for privacy, as the villa is all by itself on the mountain top, but the morning sun comes calling at 5:45 am. Fortunately the little woods on the northeast side keeps the sun from blazing in the windows, so we turn over and go back to sleep anyway.
Breakfast (or maybe lunch) in the gazebo Breakfast in the gazebo

We get up a couple of hours later and establish our island morning routine: first one up (usually me) makes coffee, omelets and toast which we eat in the shaded gazebo overlooking the Coral Bay harbor while making plans for the day. We decide to hit Crabby's Watersports in Coral Bay at 9 a.m. to rent snorkel equipment and then head right to the nearest beach.

We can't resist stopping to photograph the donkeys by the side of the road on the way into Coral Bay. Somehow they realize that we don't have any food on us, and sleepily ignore us as we take pictures.

With one thing and another it is 9:30 by the time we get to the snorkel shop. Which works out fine, as Crabby slept late that day too and arrives shortly after we do. Although Crabby's is much smaller than the shop in Cruz Bay, we have no trouble getting fins here that fit our unfashionably wide feet. We begin to realize that we really are Coral Bay people and feel a little ashamed of our silly attempt to deal with folks in the big city instead of coming right to Crabby's.
Salt Pond Bay Salt Pond Bay

This beach has some charm, but not enough to overcome the long hot walk in the blazing sun. It's even longer and hotter on the way back. Not the best choice for the first snorkel stop of the trip.

Hee. The donkeys are probably used to the paparazzi.
