Maho Bay, east side reef.
This is the closest beach to Creolla. Actually, this is a picture of the reef on the east side. Imagine your usual white coral sand beach stretching off behind the photographer. We got here at about 5:30 and had a magical sunset snorkel (yes, the sun really does set before 7pm!). Much nicer than the Salt Pond expedition earlier - calmer water, fewer rocks, better viewing and no long hot walk! |

Richard snorkeling at Maho Beach
He's following an enormous school of shiny little neon fry, the basis for the non-coral-based food chain in these parts. |

Bar jacks, thundering to the right
They're following that huge school of bait fish too. |
 |
Bar Jacks thundering back to the left
They can do this all day. |

Neon fry at Maho Bay
It's hard to capture the magic of swimming through a cloud of these little fish with a still picture, but here's my best effort. |

Underwater still life, Maho Bay
I don't understand why some of my underwater pictures have that strange reflection, but in this picture it looks kind of cool. |
