Cinnamon Bay - the official USVI National Park Beach
And a very lovely beach it is. We decided not to snorkel here because it was windy and the water was too rough. A bit ironic considering what we decided to do instead. |

Maho Bay
So we went to pretty, sheltered Maho Bay instead. And then swam all the way out to the point on the west end of the beach - right out in the wind! Had to fight a current coming back and wore ourselves out completely. Great snorkeling out there, though, with herds of enormous parrot fish. Sadly, my camera was starting to self-destruct at this point, so I have no underwater pictures. |

Maho Bay
Richard doing what he does at our little beach campsite. |

Annaberg again (just up the road from Maho Beach)
Camera came back to life after it dried out a little, so we went back to Annaberg to take pictures. Starts with a pleasantly shaded but unpleasantly long set of woodland staircases. |

Annaberg Plantation
That's some of the British Virgin Islands out there. |

Annaberg Plantation
The old sugar factory, looking like ancient Greek ruins. |

Annaberg Plantation Ruins - one of the 5 giant abandoned windmills on the island
A rare picture featuring Sharon instead of Richard. According to the historical plaque, once the sugar plantations had been abandoned and turned over to native farmers the windmills were still good places to shelter from hurricanes. It would take a hell of a wind to knock this baby down. |

Back to Francis Bay for a sunset snorkel.
Another great snorkeling experience. The fish at the near rocks are starting to seem like old friends. Or old enemies, in the case of the psycho little sergeant major. Unfortunately the underwater camera quit working before we came upon the octopus. It was sitting right out in the open in front of a rock trying to ignore a little group of feisty damsel fish that were harassing it. |
